The original and continuing purposes of the Mental Health Associations are to promote mental health, prevent mental illness, and improve the care and treatment of persons with mental illness.
A cross section of activities at any given time include education, legislative, public relations, individual and systems advocacy, and fund raising.
In addition, MHASC staff and volunteers work to provide services and systems that improve the care received by mental health consumers and families.
Current goals for MHASC include attaining an equitable share of health dollars for mental health/illness, reducing stigma, ending discrimination against persons with mental illness, and attaining a comprehensive system of community mental health services, particularly for children.
