Current Internship Opportunities

Mental Health America is always accepting applications from prospective interns throughout the semesters (Fall, Spring, and Summer). No relocation, transit, or housing costs will be provided. All interns will be expected to work 10-15 hours per week. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume to the e-mail address listed under the internship description. Please reference the internship title in the subject line of the e-mail. All applicants should include in their cover letter which educational institute they are currently attending, why they are interested in Mental Health America, and why they are interested in the particular internship to which they are applying. 


Web Interactive Internship
Mental Health America is seeking an intern to work in its new Interactive Department, which oversees the organization's online activities. A creative individual is needed to create and maintain fresh, interactive, and informative web content. Activities will include writing articles for the site, drafting policy action alerts and producing profiles of advocates. The intern will also assist in database management, including minimal data entry, as well as the production of audio and video for the site. A successful candidate will have excellent writing skills and a good knowledge of HTML. Photo editing, Flash and other Web enabling technologies are a plus. Administration Internship
Mental Health America is seeking an intern in its Administration Department. The intern will support the efforts of the department by helping with finance and human resource duties. Activities will include semi-weekly cash deposits and credit card processing, human resource administrative support, and managing the internal internship program. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in the accounting/human resources field. Development Intern
Located in Alexandria, Virginia, Mental Health America seeks an energetic development intern to assist with special projects and day-to-day operations. Ideal candidates will have an interest in non-profits and fundraising. The internship will entail building donor relations, assisting with gift entry, mailings, and conducting internet research as needed. Special projects include development of online fundraising activities and foundation and major gift research.  Candidates must be MS Office proficient and have strong internet research skills. Publications Intern
Mental Health America is seeking a journalism/communications student for an internship in its busy publications department. Responsibilities include various writing projects for print and online publications, editing, proofreading, trafficking and administrative duties. Successful candidates will have excellent writing, copy editing and organizational skills. General knowledge of mental health issues and desktop publishing software a plus. Media Relations Intern
Mental Health America is seeking a journalism/communications student for an internship in its busy Media Relations department. Intern responsibilities will include media tracking, various writing projects and assisting with Mental Health America's podcast (information at www.mentalhealthamerica.net/go/chimingin). Other tasks assigned as necessary. Successful candidates will have excellent writing, editing and organizational skills and an interest in advocacy, current events and working with the media. General knowledge of mental health issues a plus. National Association of Mental Health Planning and Advisory Councils (NAMHPAC)
NAMHPAC is seeking an intern to assist with project coordination activities. Tasks include researching material for presentations and technical assistance activities, and managing logistics associated with meetings and travel. Research supporting brochure development on topics related to mental health may also be part of the internship.
