James Radack

James Radack is the senior vice president for public affairs at Mental Health America.

In this role, Mr. Radack directs the messaging and public outreach for the organization, and oversees Mental Health America’s communications, public education programming, Resource Center and Annual Meeting. These activities annually generate more than a billion media impressions, educate nearly 500,000 people through 5,000 plus events and more than one million inquiries for information from the general public.  

Since joining Mental Health America in 1996, he has also worked in a variety of management positions in media relations, marketing, and information and referral.  During his tenure, accomplishments have included the development of a number of highly successful health communications and social marketing campaigns, including the “Do You Know It?” PSA campaign on bipolar disorder; mpower: musicians for mental health; Dialogue for Recovery, a psychoeducation program for individuals with serious mental illnesses; and Operation Healthy Reunions, an awareness-raising program for members of the military and their families.

In addition, Mr. Radack co-authored “Mental Illness and the Myth of Violent Behavior” in Violence in Homes and Communities.  He received the Circle of Distinction from the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development of the American Hospital Association for his work on Childhood Depression Awareness Day. 

Mr. Radack currently serves on the Advisory Council of the federal Resource Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma. 

Prior to joining Mental Health America, he served as an aide in the administration of D.C. Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly.  In this role, he handled liaison activity with the downtown D.C. business community and inner city neighborhoods, including organizing two major mayoral town hall meetings.  He received honors for exemplary service to the Mayor and various neighborhoods.  

Mr. Radack also worked as a legal assistant at Covington & Burling, one of the country’s top law firms.  In this position, he served state government clients on Medicaid reimbursement issues, represented Spanish-speaking illegal aliens in INS detention proceedings and mobilized residents of a subsidized housing project in a successful campaign to remove its incompetent management company.

Mr. Radack received his B.A. in History and a Certificate in Latin American Studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
