Joseph A. Rogers

Joseph A. Rogers - Joseph A. Rogers is President and CEO of the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania and executive director of the National Mental Health Consumers’ Self-Help Clearinghouse (funded by the federal Center for Mental Health Services).  He is the founder of Project SHARE, the Association’s self-help and advocacy initiative run by and for consumers of mental health services. As a result of Rogers’ vision and under his leadership, Project SHARE was subsequently expanded to include a variety of consumer-run projects servicing local, statewide, national and international constituencies.  (Project SHARE was blended with the Mental Health Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania in 1992).  Rogers won the 1990 national Clifford W. Beers Award, presented annually by the National Mental Health Association to the most effective consumer advocate.  He is a past president of the governing board of Pennsylvania Protection & Advocacy, Inc., served on the President’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities for six years, and has testified before the US Senate committees and met with President Clinton concerning issues affecting people with mental illness.  He has appeared on numerous radio and television shows and has consulted internationally on mental health issues.
